As a youngster, the newspaper of choice was The Detroit News. It was probably because Grandpa Morgan was good friends with the sports editor, Joe Falls. I also enjoyed The Sporting News back then because Mr. Falls wrote a column for that, as well. I always liked the Sunday News best because that's where Falls' column would often mention my grandpa, Uncle John, or someone in the family. It made the newspaper feel real. There was a great connection. I still enjoy the News, and read The Sporting News weekly, as well. Sports writing has changed greatly over the years. Newspapers have changed, as well. The news we used to rely on is now available to us IMMEDIATELY as it HAPPENS so we don't need the newspaper to report, we need them to develop the news, analyze it.
My first issue of TSN arrived in December 1982. I have subscribed to it since then, except for a brief period in the early 90s when the magazine radically changed. It took an awesome cover story to bring me back.
