A Toast from the Year 2000

A favorite singer of mine once said, “I ran into a chum with a bottle of rum and we wound up drinking all night.” Jim Beam may be a more appropriate alcoholic reference, but you get the picture … we had some fun during those college weekends. Kalamazoo, Mt. Pleasant. Never mind. Another favorite singer once proclaimed that this is “My life, go ahead with your own life, leave me alone.” I guess that one doesn’t fit tonight’s celebration. John Cougar once sang “Dance Naked.” Now we’re getting somewhere, but I planned on talking about Jack and Diane, er … Bru and Christie.

I’ve known for many months that I should begin writing a toast for Bru and Christie. I said way back in October that I should get started. That’s when Bru toasted me and if you watch the video I’m trying not to cry or smile or anything. I finished off a CC and Coke during his speech. I’ve finished off a couple already tonight, so I hope you enjoy what I have to say.

Yes, I put a lot of thought into this and wrote some rough drafts, did some revising and editing, and in the end I came up with this masterpiece that I hope you enjoy. Christie and Bru, I along with everyone here, wish you the best of luck in your new life together. Since Bru is a brother to me, I’ve gained a sister-in-law, and I hope that we can all see more of each other. More frequent family reunions or whatever. You’re both wonderful people and deserve the love, honor, and cherishment you will share.

Anyway, I wish you both everything as you begin your married life. Cheers.
