It was another hot summer day. It sure was nice not to have to go to school every day. Don’t get me wrong, I liked going to school every morning and getting home and watching my favorite shows in the afternoon.
Batman at 4:00, Ultraman at 4:30, Superman at 5:00, and then Emergency 51 at 6:00. Life was good. But now, I had all day long to play outside, riding around and making sure people were staying in line.
If I wasn’t busy working for the local police department, then I was working for the Construction Company in my sandbox. We were in charge of all construction and it was imperative that we did a good job. Of course, any associates were only allowed one Tonka vehicle at a time, because why would they need anymore than that. We had an array of items, including a couple of high quality backhoes, a bulldozer, front-end loader, some ambulances for emergencies, fire trucks, and an awesome, brand spanking new, state-of-the-art cement truck.
The cement truck is of no particular importance, except for the fact that it was a new and improved item and could mix a load of mud you can only imagine. It was the best machine in my arsenal. I was in charge of that machine. Like I said, though, that’s not important. What’s important is that the kid across the street, Mark, was skateboarding on that ancient board and he was playing some music – loud.
